Morning! Fun night last night and I have a lot of photos to share. So let’s dive in.
After work my roommate Allison and I headed over to 2 Amys for our friend Jamie’s birthday celebration. I’d never been before so I was excited to take it all in.

I have no idea who that man is, but apparently he was in my way! We had a big party of about 15 people but the staff was great about getting us seated as soon as possible. I got a pic of the inside too – very warm and inviting.

We were talking about how in DC, it’s hard to find really good food in a relaxed setting. Often times the good food is paired with an upscale feel, which is nice sometimes but not always. 2 Amy’s was great in that it was very casual, but also very delicious.
Figuring out how to order with so many people was quite the challenge. Some people wanted to order lots for the whole table then share, some wanted to go it alone, some in small groups…confusing! In the end, we paired up to drink, ordered a bunch of pizzas and swapped around and around.
Allison was my ordering partner for the evening. We started with a bottle of red.

We did give one glass away - otherwise it was a 2 person effort! Likely way more wine than we needed but oh well. It was a really good bottle in my opinion, so I didn’t mind having to drink a few glasses :O).
Then it was pizza time. We split the Vongole – Garlic, capers, parsley, hot pepper, cockles, grana. (cockles = clams, grana = cheese) Don’t worry, I didn’t know either!

It was excellent. Generally when it comes to pizza I like doughier crusts than Neapolitan style. However this crust was thin but also nice and soft so I really enjoyed it.
Then the swapping began! I tried three in all – one piece of ours, one Etna – Eggplant confit, olives, capers, oregano, grana and one Norcia – Tomato, salami, grilled peppers, fresh mozzarella, grana. I think the Norcia wins the best pizza of the night prize. That surprised me since I’m normally not a huge fan of meaty pizzas, but this one was fantastic.
After supper they brought out a pretty slice of cake for the birthday girl.

I think she likes it!
So then we should have gone home. But instead we spotted Something Sweet, a sweet shop across the street. Half a bottle of wine later, it seemed like a really good idea.

Allison and I split that little beauty and a cup of decaf coffee. Then the nicest thing happened! The girls who worked in the shop were closing down for the night and were tossing all of their vanilla cupcakes. So they packed some up for us to take home! It was so sweet of them – and I think my co-workers will be thankful!
Then we really should have gone home. But Jamie’s parents met up with us and we went to Enology for some conversation and a half price bottle of wine.

It was one of those nights when we just went with the flow and I’m so glad we did. I had a really great time at all three places.
So now it’s the morning and my head hurts :O/. Ah well, it’s Friday right?? Nothing a few giant glasses of water won’t fix.
Hope you enjoyed the recap. Happy almost weekend!

“in DC, it’s hard to find really good food in a relaxed setting”… seriously.
A few months ago my bf and I went to NYC, and we were both like “why can’t DC be like this?”
ha, exactly! nyc has got that genre down…
YES! Loooove 2 Amy’s! All of your DC restaurant pics make me miss it!
Right across the street is my go-to sushi restaurant, Sushi Sushi. It has really great, really cheap sushi (amazing lunch special–2 rolls, soup and salad for like $7); if you ever go, make sure you ask them to bring out their house eel sauce because it is INCREDIBLE. Definitely does nooooot fall into the upscale feel haha, but I love it!
Have a great weekend!
thanks for the tip!! i haven’t tried a lot of sushi places out here but i LOVE sushi so that needs to change! i was super impressed with that whole little area. i’ll be back soon for sure :O)
Glad you had a good time! Oh god, I love pizza, haven’t had it for some months. eheh
It was really sweet of them to give you the cupcakes!
the granoal was good…i guess i was expecting a bit more crunch instead of puffy rice. i don’t really like puffy rice that much.
happy weekend!
aww that seems like such a fun night out
mm that pizza looks fabulous!
Looks like such a fun night out! Sometimes you just need to give into the wine…
