DC is having its first snow today and it’s adorable :O).
What was not so adorable is that it got me soaking wet as I walked to my acupuncture appointment this morning. Boo. Speaking of, I’ve had a few comments/emails asking me about how acupuncture is going so I’m happy to fill you all in. Today was my third session and I am truthfully feeling quite a bit better. The pain is in my left shoulder and as I’ve said before I’ve had it for about 2 years with lots of treatment and very little relief. This is the first time I’ve tried alternative medicine for anything but at this point I’m kind of up for whatever might help!
My acupuncturist says she believes that as my pain has been chronic and there is no known cause it is likely the physical manifestation of some mental issues. She said that many women carry stress and emotions in their shoulders and so while she can shift the pain through acupuncture, I’m going to have to work on my insides before the pain will go away for good. She showed me a Chinese diagram that shows where you carry different stresses and where my pain is is right on a decision-making trigger point. Being a young-twenty something I really do have a lot of life decisions to make so she may truly be on to something! In the meantime I am going to keep seeing her twice a week for a few more weeks and the hope is that through acupuncture and addressing what may be causing tension in my life, it will all be resolved in good time. The whole mind/body wellness concept is a little new and different for me but I have to admit, it makes total sense.
Hope that answers your questions! If you want to know anything else, don’t hesitate to ask :O).
Anyway, back to food. Breakfast was divine.

Trader Joe’s makes some amazing three seed bread which my roommate recommended to me the other day. It is incredible! I believe it’s rye, poppy seed and one other – hearty and interesting and absolutely my new favorite TJ’s bread. So 2 pieces of that, toasted, and topped with a warm mashed banana with a tbsp. of flax seed, 2 tsp. of almond butter, 1 tbsp. of maple syrup and cinnamon. Holy Yum! Along with some coffee and I was in breakfast heaven.
Also, as requested, here is the finished tree!

Weird! I just had my first acupuncture visit today. Where do you go? I went to a place in Takoma Park.
Very weird! For your shoulder too? I went to a place in Dupont.
Thanks for the info about acupuncture. I am very interested in it but a little afraid of needles. It sounds like something I should do, though: I have chronic neck pain and balance issues and lots of people have recommended it to me. Its great to get your perspective on it!
Your breakie looks amazing. I forget sometimes that I can make something so quick and delish with bananas, almond butter, and toast. Sooo good!
I know what you mean – the thought of being stuck with a dozen needles is a little intimidating! They are very small and thin though – you can hardly feel them, I promise!
Beth – take pics of the snow, we haven’t had any in Toronto yet!
Bah! I wish I did – it’s gone already! I’m sure you’ll be seeing PLENTY in TO soon enough!!
The TJ’s bread sounds amazing!
And yeah, it was so nasty to walk about yesterday! My boots were WET and I almost slid all about.
Thanks for sharing about acupunture, what she told you is very interesting. I think there is a definite mind/body connection and I would love to hear more about it.
Tree is very pretty! We have snow here in Illinois as well…makes everything feel a little more holiday-ish!
