Sooo, the Baltimore Aquarium never actually happened yesterday. It’s becoming a bit of a joke because every weekend we say we’re going, every weekend we think of something else to do instead
. But we just couldn’t help it! Yesterday was almost humidity-free which is a rare treat in the DC region, so we just had to spend it outside. So, instead of Baltimore, we went to Annapolis! I’d never been before but heard great things. And now that I’ve seen it, let me say, I am in love! Lots of trees and pretty water and adorable houses and shops.
Our first stop on the trip was to Cantler’s Riverside Inn to lunch on some famous MD crabs.

Here’s Louisa and I with our crab cracking tools and iced teas. We may or may not go to the same hairdresser
.

We had some hush puppies with honey butter to start. I don’t even remember the last time I had a hush puppy and that is a shame because they were DELISH.

Then, with help from our waiter we ordered a dozen medium crabs with corn on the cob.

We made our best go at cracking them ourselves…but our server quickly offered to demonstrate how to do it properly. Apparently it was a bit obvious that we were clueless
. Once we got the hang of it though it was FUN! But a lot of work for not a lot of meat. I thought it looked like so. much. food. when I saw other tables working away at their crabs but once you strip the crab down to the edible bits there’s not much left! Good thing we had that corn too and oh man was it delicious. Local corn in the summertime tastes like everything that is right about this time of year.
The spread!

Once our lovely lunch was complete we set out to explore the area on foot.
I stood in the middle of the road to get that picture for you. Adorable, right??

Lots of walking and browsing and soaking in the sun. It’s not far at all from DC to Annapolis but it feels like a totally different world! Like a mini-vacation. And now that I’ve seen it I’ve got a feeling I’ll be craving a return trip soon
. Lovely Sunday!
And now a Happy Monday. My muscles are dyyying from Body Pumping yesterday so I just went for a nice long walk this morning to stretch out. It’s the launch of the new Body Pump and Combat classes this week, starting tomorrow, so I’m excited to see what’s in store.
I’ll see you then!

I had NO idea how to eat whole crabs like that while I was at the beach! I actually watched a tutorial when I got home how to take them apart! LOL. Glad you had a great time! Even if you DIDN’T end up at the Aquarium
FUN! Looks like a great time!!
I love Maryland Blue Crabs! They are by far one of my summer highlights. Funny story, my cab driver to Union Station told me the same story about the National Aquarium. You definitely need to check out the one in Baltimore. It’s so much fun and Inner Harbor has some great restaurants!
I’ve been to DC many times, but never to Annapolis – love the crab!! My grandpa used to buy blue crab by the bushel when I visited my grandparents in Virginia – so sad at the time I didn’t like seafood!
Glad you had a great weekend!
Eeeek, your posts always make me so excited to move down to DC in November! Can’t wait!
I didn’t know you’re moving here! I’m so behind! We’ll definitely have to do a blogger meet-up
What a fun weekend! Those crabs look delicious!
Looks like you had a great time! What a great pic of you and Louisa! I would have needed some help with the crab, too!
What great pics – it looks so fun!
I LOVE hushpuppies, too, but don’t find them in Cleveland too much….
hahaha, you both have adorable hair but you’re right! It is similar styles!
I love crab but mostly it’s just a major hassle. Which is good because it’s not cheap and really should be a treat anyway.
aw, thanks diana! my mum also has a similar style only shorter. a bit brady bunch i think! haha
First time I had (or heard of ) hush puppies was in New Hampshire a couple weeks ago. They’re amazing.
Come back and visit any time, I’ll meet you out for a drink
Oh yes! I would love to
