Just got back from a lovely 3-day weekend with my best friend Emily who came to town for a visit. Emily and her husband are expecting their first baby in a mere 6 weeks! So we had to make some time to hang before that little bundle of joy arrives. Em arrived in town on Saturday afternoon so that night we planned a meal in for everyone. Em and I made Fusilli with Sausage, Artichokes, and Sun-Dried Tomatoes, which was just delicious.

Thank youuuu Giada. Along with our pasta, I made a salad of spinach, tomatoes, feta and pecans and homemade vinaigrette.
My plate!

It should be noted that although this recipe told me it would serve six, the four of us barely made a dent in the top of the bowl! Luckily it’s made for some good leftovers
.
For dessert, Anna suggested we put her beautiful fondue pot to good use. Can anything top swirling delicious cookies and fruits in a pool of melted chocolate?? I think not.

Sunday we had big plans to go see the Baltimore Aquarium. We’ve been meaning to do it forever and having visitors in town is always a good reason to do something fun and touristy. A few months ago I went to the National Aquarium in DC and could not have been less impressed. It is (seriously) not much bigger than my bedroom. But the Baltimore Aquarium was wayyyy better! We had a fun day bopping around the museum and enjoying the waterfront that surrounds it. I think I have a bit of a thing for Baltimore…
But the REAL highlight came in the evening, when we had reservations at Woodberry Kitchen. Woodberry was recently named one of the “Top Ten Best New Restaurants” by Bon Appetit Magazine. My friends and I tried to go a few months ago but our plans were cancelled due to another Baltimore event the same weekend. So I was super duper excited to go on Sunday! Please enjoy this decadent parade:

Local petit verdot

Tilghman Island Crab Pot – Lump crab, cream cheese, sherry, toasts

The evening’s special: Fluke – pork belly, squash, wax beans, cherry tomatoes and herb mayonnaise

Beer ‘n Chocolate - Bittersweet ganache, popcorn caramel, pretzel tuile, Old Brown Dog sorbet, potato chip shortbread
It was totally incredible, start to finish. Not only was the food completely divine, the interior had just the nicest, coziest feel you could imagine. Don’t worry, I took a few creeper shots while the others were in the bathroom
.

Gorgeous, right!?
Post din photo op:

Emily (baby Wyatt!), me and Louisa.

hehehe
And just like that the month of visitors is complete! It was a seriously delightful September. Really, is there anything better than a solid month of food, fun, family and friends??
See you tomorrow
.

SO glad you had a great time!! And thanks for reminding me how delish fondue can be for dessert. I am going to have to have a chocolate night here soon.
What a fun weekend! You always have some of the most delicious meals!
I definitely enjoyed that decadent parade! Looks amazing.
Your friends are so cute! That’s an awesome baby bump although I feel her on that and am sure she’s just ready to hold her little one.
How fun! The only thing better would be if I could come visit and you take me to all these fun places!!
You know you are welcome anytime!!
I love the interior of that restaurant. It looks so inviting!
Pasta salads might just be one of my favorite things to prepare for a group of people. You can do so much with it and the one you made looks awsome!
Hm.. my comment disappeared somewhere. Anyway, fun fact: my best friend is due in 6 weeks too!
Oh crazy!! Babies for everyone
.
Have you been to the Shedd Aquariaum in Chicago? It’s pretty amazing.
I have not – but I’d love to! My brother lives in Chicago so perhaps next time I visit
.
I went to the Baltimore aquarium this summer – it was awesome!
I love fondue – chocolate especially.
Looks like you had a great weekend with friends!
