Friday night we had a DELICIOUS supper. My friend Liz and her boyfriend were in town visiting from Chicago. We’d been trying all week to coordinate a dinner for a zillion people which is always a complicated task. At the last minute we ended up in Eastern Market with plans to dine at Acqua al 2. Sadly for our reservation-less crew, there were no tables available until 10! But as it was Friday night, in DC, we decided that the situation was probably going to be the same anywhere we went. And the promise of yummy food is always worth the wait
.
Especially when you can sit next door and drink a few of these!

2 Shock Tops and an hour and a half worth of funny stories later, we moved next door for our late supper.
This restaurant has 3 locations, the first in Florence, Italy, the second in San Fransisco and now there is a new location in DC. Lucky DC! I am in love.
We began with a bottle of Malbec and 2 plates of gnocchi for the table. Of course I was sold already, because those two are pretty much my two favorite things in the universe
.

Topini al Gorgonzola - Gnocchi with a light gorgonzola cheese sauce

And a not-on-the-menu Gnocchi in pomodoro sauce. Sometimes It helps to know someone who knows someone who knows the chef
. So not *quite* as good as my most favorite Potenza gnocchi but still certainly at the top of my list.

For my main, I had the Petto di Pollo ai Funghi Porcini - Sauteed chicken breast topped with a porcini mushroom, garlic and white wine sauce.
I chose it for the mushrooms and it did not disappoint! It was incredibly tender with a generous amount of meaty, flavorful porcini mushrooms served over top. We did all kinds of switches and swaps around our table and I must say, I think I could have been happy with anything! It. was. delish.
After our mains, we ordered two desserts for the table. Everyone was feeling pretty full but as everything up to that point had been so good, we couldn’t miss out on a few bites off the sweets menu! SO GLAD we did. Although the pictures came out in a total blur thanks to the mood lighting and this bloggers wine consumption (oops) I can promise you they were beautiful. The strawberry cheesecake was ultra fluffy and light which I loved because so often it can be horribly heavy after a good meal. And oh my, the tiramisu was pretty much the besssst I’ve ever had. It was coffee-based instead of liquor-based and while I would think that would make it not as much fun it was actually perfect.
Oh heaven! I don’t think there is any better way to kick off a weekend than with a gorgeous meal like that
.
See you tomorrow!

MMM sounds like you made the right choice! Some restaurants really are just worth the wait!
MM that meal IS gorgeous! Maybe I’ll go to the location in Florence.. lol.
can you believe i’ve never tried Gnocchi?? what exactly is it? a type of stuffed pasta if i’m not mistaken?
it’s not stuffed (although that could be good!). it’s a potato pasta – the texture is like little pasta pillows. you must try it!!
I choose things on the menu because of either the mushrooms or avocado that is included. This method rarely fails me…
Yummy yummy yummy!
I need to start experimenting with making gnocchi…….
Gnocchi is pretty much the best thing ever invented, isn’t it?
um, YES!
Hmmmm gnocchi. That’s something I haven’t had in a while. Looks like a super fun dinner and super tasty too!
I have been to the Florence location of this restaurant – the pasta dishes look similar to how they were served in Italy…*sigh*, wish I was there!!
