And so the Restaurant Week fun has officially begun!

We had a delightful dinner last night at Ris in Foggy Bottom (my old hood!). I’d been to Ris for brunch before but never dinner. Brunch was excellent and while the dinner menu also looked appealing, it’s pricey. Therefore a perfect Restaurant Week spot!
Ris was lovely and cozy inside, with big wood tables and candle lighting. I remember the atmosphere being a bit more stark at brunch, so I much preferred the feel of this dinner. Our waitress was attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Considering the number of people filling Ris for RW, the service was spot on!
We began with a Rose Pinot Noir blend. I am much more of a red wine lover than white and this was the perfect comprimise between the two.

First course: Gnudi – ricotta dumplings on tomato and eggplant fondue with spinach and crisp prosciutto

I absolutely loved these. Soft little pillows of deliciousness
. The outside was just slightly crispy and the freshness of the tomato sauce really popped!
Main course: Pan Roasted Chesapeake Rockfish - with potato confit, pickled onions, olives, cured lemon, Parmesean cream and minted pine nuts

I recently discovered how much I love rockfish. Done well, it is melt-in-your-mouth gorgeous. This was just that! And the contrast of salty little olives with the parmesan cream…oh my.
Dessert: Flourless Chocolate Cake – with bourbon chestnut ice cream

This is the only part of the meal I wasn’t knocked out with. Flourless chocolate cake is on perhaps every dessert menu everywhere so I usually steer clear in favor of something more unique. But I was sucked in by the bourbon ice cream this time and while that component was indeed delicious, I felt like the dessert itself was a bit basic. My fault I suppose!
And there you have Ris’ Restaurant Week dinner. One heck of a Tuesday night
.

This place looks wonderful!! I want some of that flourless chocolate cake. Looks delicious!
That’s quite fancy and awesome for a Tuesday night dinner – I love it! And that first course looks to die for. Glad it was a good night and didn’t disappoint!
I love flourless chocolate cake.
Glad you had a great dinner – at an affordable price!
Looks like a great meal! I will have to keep Ris in mind for future dinners.
Hooray for restaurant week! What a spread. The Gnudi looks & sounds just amazing. Bummer the dessert wasn’t spectacular…but its always fun to get dessert
Yum, now I’m even hungrier than I was a few minutes ago.
Flour-less chocolate cake steals my gluten-free heart.
Also, just wanted you to know I nominated you for a blogger award! http://asideofsimple.wordpress.com/2011/01/19/live-and-blog-your-style/

bourbon ice cream sounds freaking delicious. the worst part about this entry is that I can’t go out and buy some right now
Yummm that cake looks good! I don’t normally like the taste of bourbon, but in an ice cream… maybe
LA’s having a restaurant week soon too! I hope to attend…I’d love a bite (or all) of that fish!
