Last night was my photography class number 2, where we focused on depth of field and shutter speed. I spend wayyy too much time looking at foodie photography on foodgawker and my favorite pictures tend to be the ones where the food is in sharp focus with a hazy front and background. Depth of field is how photographers achieve that look, so I’m super interested in learning how to create the effect myself! We’ll see what sort of pics I can come up with for this week’s homework assignment
.
And as promised, Monday night’s dinner. My friend Jimmy has been talking about his most favorite Chinese place for months now and Monday night I was introduced. The restaurant is Peking Gourmet Inn, located in Falls Church, VA. We had some Chinese beer and a few of his faves!

BBQ Pork to start…
Followed by 1/2 a Peking Duck. It’s carved at the table and then made into little duck wraps. ”Duck Wraps” is not the official name, I’m sure
.

Completely delightful! I’m starting to love duck after having some very delish duck at Thanksgiving this year. Plus it’s always fun to roll up your dinner at the table
.
And thennn a mountain of Szechuan Beef Proper was delivered to our table. And I messed it up! My pictures came out all shaky. Trust it was yummy and I was left with enough take-away to feed our whole house and friends for days!
So there you have it! Monday night’s Chinese food extravaganza. During dinner we named off our 3 favorite regions for cuisine and our favorite food from each. It’s actually a hard game! You try.
Question: What are your 3 favorite regions for cuisine and your favorite food from each??

Peking Gourmet. Is that the place that’s orange and brown outside? I’m trying to place it. Always looking for a recommendation because three really are not many good Chinese restaurants around here.
I love Japanese food — tepanyaki and sushi. I love steak and potatoes type meals. And lately I am on a pho kick. I got the best vegetarian pho yesterday. Can’t for the life of me remember the name of the place, but it’s next to Jasmine Garden and Starbucks, in the shopping center at Gallows and 50. Mmmm…
hm, not sure if i can remember…here is the URL: http://www.pekinggourmet.com/
it is very good!
woo!! I’ve heard that place… they seem to have the best peikin duck in DC area! I need to try it out!
regional food
korean: hot pot rice
japanese: noodles
Vietnamese: pho
i’m usually up for trying new things, but i don’t know what it is about the pork and duck that i can’t stomach! glad you had a nice time with your friend!
xo.
Why have I not tried duck yet? This is a problem.
That place looks fantastic! I haven’t had good Chinese in soooo long!
3 favorites? Tough question lady!
Japanese-sushi, sushi and more sushi.
Italian- give me carbs and cover it in cheese please.
The third one is where I really struggle. I think Mediterranean since that gives me enough of an umbrella to cover a few more of my favorites.
haha – that was my exact answer for #3 also
Is bread considered a favorite food cuisine?
ha – sure!! this game has pretty relaxed rules
The BBQ pork looks pretty good. I’ve never had it before, I tend to stick with chicken or veggie dishes when I eat at Chinesse restaurants.
Even though I’m vegetarian now, I’m still trying to re-find an amazing duck dish I had at a french restaurant during high school! It was salty, sinewy…delicious. And the ones I’ve tried since always have that steak texture! Said restaurant is out of business, so I’m still on the lookout.
Great pics (and yummy chinese food!). I’m so jealous of your photog class. I almost signed up for one, but had too many conflicts. I hope I do it soon—I just don’t take the time to learn on my own!
My fave foods are Mexican (quesadillas)
Italian (gnocchis)
and japanese (sushi)
Mmmmm!
I’ve always wanted to try Peking Duck. We have a place called “Peking Duck House” and I heard it was good…this makes me want to go there.
hmm… 3 regions
Thai – Panang Curry
Indian – Chicken Tikka Masala
Italian – Gnocchi
