Great day yesterday! Let’s catch up.
After I left you, Anna and I headed to Frederick for BBQ and Antique shopping. First stop, lunch at the Black Hog. Anna visited the Black Hog a few months ago and gave it rave reviews. Barbeque is something I’ve never really gotten into but I’d like to change that. So I thought a place with the thumbs up from my friend was a good start!
Anna had just renewed her driver’s license after a few weeks without, so of course we had to celebrate her newly valid ID with a beer. Local!
Flying Dog’s spring seasonal – Garde Dog. Delightful! I’m a big fan of Flying Dog’s beers and anything with “spring” in the name is automatically my fave right now.
As for the food, Black Hog offers several different varieties of barbeque from around the US. I ordered the Carolina style BBQ sandwich ( pork, whole hogs, shoulders and/or butts, typically chopped or pulled and served with a vinegar based sauce.) And a side of mac and cheese.
Will you look at that! Deluxe, right? As Anna pointed out, you know the food is good when the place is packed and everything is served on paper. No frills, just really good food. The pork was tender and flavorful, especially with the addition of some sauce – there were several varieties on the table to choose from. But that ooey-gooey mac and cheese was the stand-out to me! Oh rich, cheesy pasta goodness. Deeeeelish.
With full bellies, we walked on over to our Antique shopping. The store was MASSIVE – and we spent forever in there sorting through all the goodies! I was looking for some fun bloggy items but the whole experience was a bit overwhelming! After much deliberation I narrowed my purchase down to three items I was especially fond of. I took their picture in black and white – so you get the full effect!
An old-fashioned mason jar, an old peanut butter tin and a ring. I am obsessed with them! I have a little vision for some especially pretty photos alongside a peanut butter granola recipe post. It could be gorgeous, right?? The other jar you see is some truffle honey. We stumbled upon it later in the day and as I’ve been on the hunt for some forever, I just had to snap it up!
A better pic of the ring:
I just love it.
And that was our day! Something fun and totally different – I dig it. Enjoy the rest of your weekends. I’ll see you Monday!

The pork looks great! Love that stuff
Antiques—-fun! Beautiful ring, girl. Love it!
I absolutely adore antique stores. I am a huge Gone With The Wind fan, and I always scour the places for any books or memorobilia. I actually ended up finding a 1940 edition for only 10 dollars once! And that ring is so pretty!!
Pulled pork sandwiches are the best! Good call
I am not really a fan of BBQ – especially pulled pork.
That ring is gorgeous – I have been looking for something very similar for months now. Guess I should hit up the antique stores.
local beer, pulled pork, and antique jewelry? Its like you wrote this post just for me
Another place to put on my list of DC adventures!
Pork sammies look to die for.
Love the new banner, despite the fact I voted for a different one.
Somehow it works so nice with the script etc.
Wow – that place looks pretty amazing. Jay would be all over it – he LOVES bbq!
