Hello! How was your weekend?? The nicest thing happened to me on Saturday! Let me tell you a story.
My sister works on Saturdays and I usually drive her in. This time we were part of the way there (and running a bit late) when she realized she forgot her lunch. I could tell she was stressed about it because she doesn’t really have time for a break and had to have lunch and dinner at work because of our event in the evening. I thought it would be nice to go and buy her something after I dropped her off.
So I went to Subway and ordered her a big sandwich. I was standing in line to pay when the man in front of me paid for my sandwich instead! It was just the nicest thing. I followed him out to say a big thank you and he said, “It’s no problem! It’s a blessing. It’s what God does for me every day.” I was so touched that a stranger would do something so out of the blue and so kind. I wanted to do something nice for my sister and in turn someone did something nice for me. What a lovely start to the day!
Coincidently, it was a ham and cheese sandwich. Saturday afternoon I made Salad as a Meal’s ham and cheese bread!
It is divine. Ham, lovely olives and melt.in.your.mouth. Comte French cheese. And absolutely delicious paired with cantaloupe tomato goat cheese cucumber and onion salad, FYI
.
What’s the nicest thing that’s happened to you lately??

SO cool that you could be on the receiving end of a random act of kindness that way
isn’t it neat when God blesses you out of the blue like that?!
this loaf looks YUMMY! totally new spin on ham & cheese!
xo.
Wow, that’s amazing that someone did that for you! People can be so thoughtful!!
Is that ham and cheese bread a quick bread or a yeast bread?
It’s a quick bread
Something similar happened to me when I was visiting a friend in Phoenix. We were eating dinner at a nice restaurant, and at the end of the meal, our waiter said that our bill had been taken care of. Um what? The waiter wasn’t supposed to tell us who paid for our meal, just to pay it forward. Your post was a good reminder to do so, and that there are still some kind people out there!
How nice!
A student paid me a big compliment that made me feel really good about what I do.
I bet my husband would love that bread.
omg, this looks absolutely fantastic!!!! Send me some??? lol
I can only imagine how amazing that bread tastes. It looks like a meal on its own!
Love the pay it forward concept
I try to buy the drink of the person behind me at starbucks every once in a while. And that bread? Ridiculous yum! I’m not a huge fan- but I’m thinking turkey would be lovely too!
This looks lovely!
My little passing it forward was when we went though a toll booth in Illinois the folks in front of us paid for our vehicle. So on the way back through, we did the same for someone else. It was really just the random act of kindness that counts so very much.
What a great story! Thank you for sharing! And the bread looks awesome!

Paying it forward in ham & cheese! Great story.
OMG – how nice!! I have never had anything like that happen to me but I like to think that just smiling and saying a cheerful good morning! on my morning runs cheer people up just a bit.
i like that ham and cheese bread counts as salad for a meal!
haha – you are not the first one to mention that!

Great story! Bread looks delish.
I am really excited to try this recipe out. You can’t go wrong with ham and cheese bread. I think that once I make it it may lead to other breads of this nature. Thanks for sharing this recipe and this new site Salad as a Meal.
