One of the things I missed most after moving away from the Dupont Circle area was such close access to a Farmer’s Market. I think once you’ve had fresh farm produce, it’s very hard to go back to tasteless grocery store finds! So imagine my excitement when I saw that a brand new Farmer’s Market was coming to our very own neighborhood this summer. Louisa and I ventured over on Saturday morning to check it out. It’s not huge – 2 produce stands, 2 bakery stands and 1 meat and egg stand – but really, that’s all you need! And I’m sure if the market is a success it’ll continue to grow and grow.
I didn’t take pictures since it was a bit small for that kind of attention. We did however buy some lovely produce, a loaf of bread and an organic free-range chicken “killed on Wednesday”. Although the description still makes me squirm, you can’t beat the difference in taste.
And then as we took the walk back home, I saw this lovely flower.
My picture taking is random

I had plans Saturday night and had to pick Louisa up from work beforehand. We needed a quick supper before heading out for the evening, one that could be ready as soon as we got home. So I made a pasta salad!
Farmer’s Market Pasta Salad
(serves 2)
- 1/2 zucchini, diced
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1 cup pasta (I used Ohio City pasta my mum brought us from CL last weekend)
- 1/4 cup green goddess dressing
- tsp. basil
- 1/4 cup feta cheese
- salt and pepper
Boil pasta according to instructions. Drain pasta and place in fridge to cool for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, chop vegetables. When pasta is mostly cool, stir in vegetables, s&p and goddess dressing. Place in fridge for an hour or so to allow flavors to combine. Sprinkle basil and feta over top before serving.
Easy! Delicious. You don’t have to do much when your flavors are so good to begin with
. And you can switch this up a million ways depending on what’s available when you shop.
See you tomorrow friends!

I live in DUpont and the Farmer’s Market is one of the reasons I cannot imagine moving out of the area, no matter how small our apartment is
ha yes – i think the small size/high cost of rent is actually very worth it
.

That looks awesome, Beth! I’ve seriously been craving feta recently, but have so much other cheese to use up before I buy more cheese to throw in the refrigerator…
